2 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

SRINAGAR: Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists died during an encounter with security forces on Tuesday morning in Shopian's Safnagri.

"The operation is over now. No collateral damage reported. The identity of the terrorists is being confirmed," reported news agency ANI.

The slain terrorists were later identified as Mohd Idrees Sultan and Amir Hussain Rather, affiliated with terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. Security forces recovered arms and ammunition at the site of encounter.

On Sunday, two more Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. However, two other terrorists managed to escape.

The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khudpora area on Saturday evening following information about the presence of the militants there, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire towards the security forces, who retaliated.

"A couple of terrorists managed to escape from the site as blood trails have been seen there," he added.

The slain militants have been identified as Mohammad Irfan Bhat and Shahid Mir.
