Jammu: A Special Police Officer (SPO) has now gone missing from Jammu and Kashmir's Pampore town, reports said on Wednesday.

According to news agency ANI, the unidentified SPO went missing shortly after leaving from Pampore Police Station where he is currently posted.

He was also carrying his AK-47 rifle while returning home.

A massive search operation has been launched to trace his location.

The fresh incident comes days after an Army rifleman, Aurangzeb, was first abducted and then brutally killed by a group of terrorists to avenge the killing of a local terrorist by the security forces in May.

Aurangzeb was also on his way home to celebrate Eid. He belonged to the 44, Rashtriya Rifles. Coinciding his murder, the state of J&K witnessed another sensational killing of 'The Rising Kashmir' editor-in-chief Shujaat Bukhari by some bike-borne terrorists.

Their cold-blooded killings provoked strong political reaction across the country.

In view of the deteriorating law and order situation and the alleged soft posturing of the Mehboob Mufti-led PDP government towards terrorists, the BJP ended its alliance with the party and pulled out of the coalition government in J&K.

President' Rule was imposed in the state following the recommendations of J&K Governor NN Vohra. The Centre also revoked its one-month-old policy of suspending anti-terror operations in the state, which was put in forces during the holy month of Ramzan.
