Srinagar: Fearing huge protests, heavy security arrangements have been put in place throughout the Kashmir Valley to maintain law and order on the slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's first death anniversary on Saturday.

Top Army officials and J&K Police have reviewed the security situation and measures put in place for ensuring peace and calm in the Valley.

Curfew has been imposed in Burhan Wani's hometown Tral in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. The authorities have suspended train services between Baramulla town and Bannihal town for the day.

Wani's killing in an encounter with security forces on July 8 last year, triggered massive protests and prolonged period of curfews and shutdowns across the Valley.

The administration has blocked internet and broadband services in the Kashmir Valley.

As many as 85 persons were killed and thousands others were injured in daily clashes between security forces and protesters for a period of over four months.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway that is used by Amarnath Yatra pilgrims is manned by multi-layered security provided by the army, the CRPF, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the Sashastra Seema Bal and state police.

Prohibitory orders under sector 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been imposed in old city areas of Srinagar, Baramulla, Sopore, Pulwama, Anantnag and some other sensitive places.
