Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Friday (May 29) that all places of worship will open in the state from Monday and not more than ten people will be allowed at a time.

"All places of worship, mandir, masjid, gurudwara and others will open, but not more than 10 people will be allowed, no assembly at religious places," announced Bengal Chief Minister Mamata.

During the meeting with state authorities, Mamata also said that West Bengal was successful in controlling COVID-19 spread in the last two months; however, she added that cases started to increase in the state as people are coming from outside.

Addressing the media two days before Lockdown 4.0 is coming to an end, CM Mamata said that all public and private workplaces will be back to business in the state by June 8. "Public, private sectors to open up in West Bengal with 100 per cent strength from June 8," the CM said, adding that schools in the state will continue to remain shut through June as their complexes are being used  as quarantine centres for migrants returning home.

She further said that while she was happy that migrants were returning to their home state, she slammed the Centre and the Railways for the alleged lack of adequate social distancing arrangements during their journey. "West Bengal was successful in controlling COVID-19 spread in last two months. However, cases are increasing now as people coming from outside," the Chief Minister said. She said Railways have been sending thousands of migrant workers in one train but why can't it run some extra trains for them so that social distancing is maintained. "These migrants are packed inside trains, without food and water, sometimes double the capacity," Mamata said.

"In the name of Shramik Special trains, railways are running Corona Express trains," she stated.
