NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held crucial discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Ajit Doval. PM Modi's crucial virtual meeting with his top ministers and the NSA comes in the backdrop of a drone attack on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu.
Ahead of this crucial meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by the Air Force Chief, the sources said.
Notably, the meeting also took place a day after Rajnath Singh concluded his two-day visit to Ladakh. Though there has been no official word on the agenda of the high-level virtual meeting, the situation in J&K and along the Line of Actual Control is expected to be the top focus.
News agency ANI later quoted sources as saying that discussions were held on futuristic challenges in the defence sector and equipping the armed forces with modern equipment.

In a major security concern, a drone attack was carried out on the Jammu Air Force station in the early hours of Sunday. Explosives were dropped on the IAF station in Jammu by two drones. The case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Meanwhile, alert Army soldiers thwarted a possible attack by drones on a military station in Jammu on June 28. "Both the drones flew away. A major threat was thwarted by the alertness and proactive approach of troops," he said.
Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh has said that the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit is suspected to be behind the drone attack.
The Centre has handed over the investigation into the drone attack to the NIA.
Importantly, PM Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Wednesday, which is likely to discuss the Covid situation and may also focus on the functioning of few ministries, sources said. The meeting will be held virtually.
The Union Council of Ministers is headed by the Prime Minister and includes the Cabinet Ministers and Ministers of State (MoS) with the ones being given independent charge
The work done by the Road and Transport Ministry and Civil Aviation and Telecom ministries may be reviewed in the meeting, the sources said. A detailed discussion on the COVID-19 situation is also likely during the meeting.
Political observers feel the council of ministers meeting assumes significance as it is being held at a time when political circles are abuzz with speculation of a cabinet expansion and possible reshuffle.
