Addressing the nation in 'Mann ki Baat', PM Modi had asked people to light a Diya as a 'Salute to Soldiers' who fearlessly protect our nation.

New Delhi: As India celebrates the auspicious festival of Diwali today, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes on the occasion of Diwali on Saturday. President Ram Nath Kovind appealed to people to celebrate the festival in a pollution-free and environment-friendly manner.

"Diwali is also a festival of cleanliness, so let us honor mother-nature by celebrating a pollution-free, environment-friendly and clean Diwali," President Kovind tweeted. The President said that the festival inspires us to work for the service of humanity."Let us, on this occasion, resolve to become a lamp of hope and prosperity for the poor, destitute and needy people of the society by sharing our happiness just as a lamp lightens many lamps by sharing its light," he said.

 

PM Modi said, ''Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali! May this festival further brightness and happiness. May everyone be prosperous and healthy.''

 

PM Modi had also extended Diwali greeting in his monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat'. In his address, PM had asked people to light a Diya as a 'Salute to Soldiers' who fearlessly protect our nation. 

PM Modi also paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of the country Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary. He wrote, "My humble tribute to the first Prime Minister of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary".

PM Narendra Modi is likely to celebrate the festival of Diwali with army jawans posted in the border areas. Since the time he took over as the Prime Minister of the country, he has been celebrating the festival of Diwali with soldiers at the border.
