The areas going to polls in this phase have a sizeable Muslim population influenced by religious leaders of the Barelvi and Deoband sects. In the 2017 UP Assembly elections, of the 55 seats, the BJP had won 38 while the Samajwadi Party had bagged 15 and the Congress two. Of the 15 seats won by Akhilesh Yadav's SP, Muslim candidates had emerged victorious on 10. These areas are said to be strongholds of the Samajwadi Party.

Over 2 crore voters will today (February 14) decide the electoral fate of 586 candidates in the fray in the second phase of the election to 55 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Of the estimated 2.02 crore eligible voters, there are 1.08 crore male, 94 lakh female, and 1,269 third gender voters.
