Pawar's Resignation Causes A Gamut Of Emotion In NCP
Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), abruptly announced his intention to resign from his position on Tuesday. Stunned workers protested- one even made a suicide threat- and leaders sobbed as they pleaded for the octogenarian leader to reconsider his decision. By unexpectedly announcing his intention to step down as leader of the party he formed and has led since 1999, when he departed the Congress to forge his own political path, Pawar caught everyone off guard. The announcement was made by the former Union minister at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan during the release of a revised edition of his autobiography. Party leaders and members immediately protested the revelation in an emotional manner, pleading with the seasoned lawmaker to change his mind.
