Modi-Jinping informal summit concludes, new mechanism of trade, defence ties in focus

Xi and Modi held their second informal meeting in the picturesque southern Indian town following their first in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in April 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed that it was important to deal with the challenges of terrorism and radicalisation in an increasingly complex world.

"Both leaders agreed that it was important to deal with the challenges of terrorism and radicalisation in an increasingly complex world. Both are leaders of countries, which are not only large in terms of areas and population but also in terms of diversity," , said Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said on Saturday during a special press briefing following the culmination of the two-day summit.

For the second day of the summit, the Prime Minister opted for a Kurta and Pajama, along with his statement Modi jacket. He had carried out all engagements on the first day of the summit in traditional Tamil attire, including a veshti, white half-sleeved shirt and angvastram.

Xi, on the other hand, wore a black suit without a tie on Saturday, signifying the informal nature of the summit.

The Chennai City Police have announced that vehicle movement along Old Mahabalipuram Road will be curbed at 11 am. Vehicles heading towards the city and towards Sholinganallur can ply along the road between 10 am and 11 am.
