Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party swept the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, leading the NDA to a super-sized victory for a second term in the office. The Election Commission has officially declared wins in 541 of 542 seats. The counting is underway in just one seat, from where the saffron party is leading. The BJP became the first non-Congress party to cross the 300-seat mark in the Lok Sabha. The party surpassed its 2014 performance when it won 282 seats. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to hold talks today on the formation of the new cabinet.

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan mocked the Congress for eyeing the prime minister's post, but ending up with a tally which falls short to even help it get the chair of leader of the opposition. Paswan further said he had predicted victory of his ministerial colleague Smriti Irani from Amethi against Rahul Gandhi.

The Election Commission (EC) is likely to meet on Saturday to finalise the list of winning candidates to be handed over to President Ram Nath Kovind, according to news agency PTI. Once the list is finalised, the three commissioners will seek an appointment with the President.

Taking to Twitter, he said, "Party colleagues from Kashi gave me the official certificate of election from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency! Feel happy to be representing one of the oldest and most vibrant centres of Indian culture."

Nearly 12 per cent of members in the newly elected Lok Sabha is below the age of 40, according to news agency PTI. The 16th Lok Sabha had eight per cent of MPs below the age of 40.

Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan, who won from the Jamui Lok Sabha constituency, on Thursday attacked Rashtriya Janata Dal chief chief Tejashwi Yadav. Calling the RJD leader his younger brother, Chirag said that Tejashwi has too much ego and was not ready to listen to anything. "He attacked the chief minister (Nitish Kumar) and the kind of launguge he used was not even used by either his father Lalu Prasad of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. We too do nit use such a language for Lalu Prasad Yadavbut Tejashwi has broken all limits," said Chirag while adding that he tried to reason with Tejashwi but failed.

More than 1.54 lakh voters exercised NOTA (None of the Above) option in Punjab where Congress registered an impressive victory by winning eight of the 13 Lok Sabha seats. As many as 1,54,423 voters (1.12 per cent of total votes polled) pressed the NOTA option, as per election office data.
