Congress alleged that coronavirus deaths in Uttar Pradesh are the result of the state government's "laxity" as it failed to provide "timely treatment" to patients. In a statement issued here on Sunday, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu also claimed that patients are not getting proper facilities at COVID treatment centres. The claims of the government over the oxygen supply are too far from the ground reality, he said, adding that people are not getting medicines.

Telangana saw the highest number of daily coronavirus cases as well as related deaths with 8,126 people being infected by the virus and 38 more succumbing to the disease, the state government said on Sunday. The total caseload stands at over 3.95 lakh while the toll rose to 1,999.

The surge in COVID-19 cases among the undertrials lodged in Mathura Jail is continuing as 52 new cases were detected in the latest report received on Sunday. Though most undertrials are hospitalised in COVID-19 centre of the jail, adequate security has been deployed in the hospitals where undertrials have been admitted for COVID-19 infection, SSP Gaurav Grover said.

TMC govt denied people central schemes, misappropriated Rs 5,000cr: BJP
BJP alleged that Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal misappropriated around Rs 5,000 crore by denying benefits to farmers and the poor. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also claimed that assets of a minister in the TMC government have increased exponentially since 2006.
"As far as information is available to us, around Rs 1,000 crore has been misappropriated on this account every year for the last five years, amounting to Rs 5,000 crore," Vijayvargiya said.

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi urged the Biden administration to release doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to countries currently experiencing the deadly surge in COVID-19 cases.

Bengal posts record single-day jump of 15,889 COVID cases, 57 more deaths
West Bengal on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 15,889 COVID-19 cases pushing the tally to 7,43,950, the bulletin issued by the state health department said. The death toll rose to 10,941 as 57 more people succumbed to the disease, it said.
Of the fresh fatalities, 18 were reported from Kolkata, 15 from North 24 Parganas and 5 from Howrah. The remaining deaths were registered in several other districts.

Filmmaker Guneet Monga tests positive for COVID-19
Indian filmmaker Guneet Monga on Sunday informed that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and will remain under home quarantine.
"Dear All. Despite taking due care and all the necessary precautions, I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am under self-quarantine and taking all the measures to combat the virus with the guidance of my doctor. I am now recovering well," Monga said in a statement.
Monga requested everyone who has come in contact with her recently to get themselves tested. "Please take care and stay safe!", Guneet Monga," she added.

The security forces seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and other warlike stores from along the India-Myanmar border, officials said on Sunday. A Defence spokesman Lt. Col P. Khongsai said that based on the specific intelligence inputs about the movement of insurgents in Manipur`s Phaikoh and Kamjong areas, along the India-Myanmar frontiers, an operation was launched and seized the arms and other warlike stores late on Saturday.

Night curfew announced in 4 districts of Himachal Pradesh
It was also decided to make RTPCR tests within 72 hrs mandatory for all visitors visiting the state. It was decided that in case the persons have not undergone RTPCR test, they would have to remain in home quarantine/isolation at the place of their residence for 14 days. The Jammu and Kashmir administration announced a 34-hour curfew from 8 pm on Saturday amid a surge in coronavirus cases. "Complete corona curfew to be observed in the Union Territory from 8PM, 24th April (Saturday) till 6AM, April 26 (Monday). Essential and emergency services to be allowed. All market, commercial institutions will remain closed," the office of J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted.

Aryama Sanyal, director, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport said an empty tanker of medical oxygen was sent from Indore to Jamnagar in Gujarat on board the C-17, among the largest military transport aircraft in the world.
