UK dispatches life-saving medical equipment to India

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal wrote to leading industrialists of the country, seeking their help in combating the second wave of COVID-19. Kejriwal said that he would be grateful if the industrialists, involved in using or producing oxygen and can help with transporting oxygen in cryogenic tankers, come to Delhi`s assistance in its time of need.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through his monthly programme ‘Mann ki Baat’ on Sunday (April 25). This was the fourth edition of the radio programme in the year 2021.

The United States will immediately provide raw materials for COVID-19 vaccines, medical equipment and protective gear to help India respond to a massive surge in COVID-19 infections, a White House spokeswoman said. In addition, France, Germany, United Kindom and the European Union too announced plans to aid India against a pandemic that led to the storage of hospital beds and medical-grade oxygen in the country.

Amazon on Sunday announced to donate 10,000 oxygen concentrators and BiPAP machines to hospitals and public institutions to augment their capacity to help Covid-19 infected patients across multiple cities in India.

Congress alleged that coronavirus deaths in Uttar Pradesh are the result of the state government's "laxity" as it failed to provide "timely treatment" to patients. BJP alleged that Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal misappropriated around Rs 5,000 crore by denying benefits to farmers and the poor. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also claimed that assets of a minister in the TMC government have increased exponentially since 2006.

"As far as information is available to us, around Rs 1,000 crore has been misappropriated on this account every year for the last five years, amounting to Rs 5,000 crore," Vijayvargiya said.

Bengal posts record single-day jump of 15,889 COVID cases, 57 more deaths

West Bengal on Sunday registered its highest single-day spike of 15,889 COVID-19 cases pushing the tally to 7,43,950, the bulletin issued by the state health department said. The death toll rose to 10,941 as 57 more people succumbed to the disease, it said.

Of the fresh fatalities, 18 were reported from Kolkata, 15 from North 24 Parganas and 5 from Howrah. The remaining deaths were registered in several other districts.

Filmmaker Guneet Monga tests positive for COVID-19

Indian filmmaker Guneet Monga on Sunday informed that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and will remain under home quarantine.

"Dear All. Despite taking due care and all the necessary precautions, I have tested positive for Covid-19. I am under self-quarantine and taking all the measures to combat the virus with the guidance of my doctor. I am now recovering well," Monga said in a statement.

Monga requested everyone who has come in contact with her recently to get themselves tested. "Please take care and stay safe!", Guneet Monga," she added.

Night curfew announced in 4 districts of Himachal Pradesh
