Delhi Flood Alert Live Updates: The national capital is facing severe water logging situations and flood-like conditions have arisen due to the incessant rainfall in Delhi. The water level in river Yamuna has crossed the danger mark and has reached over 408 meters which is the highest in the past 45 years.

The Delhi police has also imposed section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure in the flood-prone areas in Delhi. As the rainwater flooded the low-lying areas, colonies and markets on Wednesday, the authorities evacuated 16,564 people. About 14,534 of these took refuge in tents pitched by the Delhi government and under flyovers.

Five gates at ITO barrage obstructing Yamuna's flow, says Delhi Minister

Delhi Water Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Thursday said that five gates at the ITO barrage are disrupting the flow of the Yamuna water. During an inspection of the barrage near the Delhi Secretariat, Bharadwaj said five of the 32 gates are jammed due to silt accumulation, hindering the quick drainage of river water.

"We are actively working to open these gates. A compressor has been brought from the Kondli plant to remove the silt surrounding the gates. If the gates fail to open, gas cutters will be used," he said.

PM Dials Delhi LG From France, Enquires About Waterlogging, Flood Situation

 

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him up over the phone from France to enquire about the flood and waterlogging situation in the national capital.

"Honourable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji called from France to enquire about the waterlogging and flood situation in Delhi and the efforts being made to deal with it," Saxena said.

The Lt Governor said the prime minister "directed that appropriate steps be taken in the interest of Delhi by taking all possible help from the central government".

Delhi flood: Congress slams AAP govt, calls it 'man-made crisis' 

The Congress on Thursday attacked the AAP government in Delhi over the flood-like situation in parts of the national capital, describing it as a "man-made crisis" and not a natural disaster.

Asked about the situation in the national capital, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate told news agency PTI, "The government needs to step in. It has happened because of a man-made crisis, this is not a natural disaster. Drains are not clear, water bodies have been taken over, (there is) illegal occupation of land..."

"Where is the Delhi chief minister? Looks like he said it seriously that he would make Delhi (a) land of lakes," Shrinate said in a swipe at Arvind Kejriwal.

Rs 200 crore business affected due to rains, flooding in Delhi, say traders

An estimated Rs 200 crore worth of business has been affected due to rains and flooding in parts of the national capital, a traders' body said on Thursday.

While appealing to traders to suspend movement of goods from other cities for next few days in view of the rising water level of the Yamuna river, the Chamber of Trade and Industry said that the markets of Old Delhi, Kashmiri Gate, Mori Gate, Monestry Market, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Bhagirath Place, Lajpat Rai Market, Kinari Bazar , Fatehpuri, Khari Baoli, Naya Bazar have been affected.

Delhi Police commissioner visits flood-hit areas

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Thursday visited the Old Iron Bridge at Gandhi Nagar and took stock of the situation as parts of the national capital were inundated by water from the Yamuna river that spilled onto the streets.

Arora visited the bridge and other places with Special Commissioner (Law and Order) Dependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner (East) Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (Shahdara) Rohit Meena, Deputy Commissioner (Northeast) Joy Tirkey and other officers.

Delhi flood: Red Fort closed to public on Friday

Amid a flood-like situation in Delhi and the Yamuna waters reaching the walls of Red Fort, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Thursday said that the iconic monument will be closed to the public on Friday. The announcement came after the Directorate of Education (DoE) said that all government and private schools in the national capital will remain shut till July 16 in view of the rising Yamuna water levels. 

"In light of heavy monsoon and rainfall, and to prioritize the safety and well-being, the Red Fort, Delhi will be closed from the 2nd half of 13th to 14th July, 2023," the ASI said in a tweet.

Traffic advisory issued as Yamuna inundates Delhi 

As water from the Yamuna spilled onto the roads of the national capital, the Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday issued an advisory on vehicular movement. According to the police advisory, traffic movement has been impaired on Mahatma Gandhi Marg -- between the IP flyover and the Chandgi Ram Akhara and the Kalighat Mandir and the Delhi Secretariat -- and on the Outer Ring Road between the Wazirabad Bridge and the Chandgi Ram Akhara.

Delhi Floods Live Updates: Water Level In Yamuna To Reach At Its Peak In Evening

Requesting Delhiites, residing in flood affected areas, to not leave their houses if not essential, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Yamuna River's water level will reach its peak by 3-4 pm Thursday and then it will start receeding.

“I would like to request people to not step out if it is not essential and resort to Work from Home. We have closed the schools in affected areas. We are also trying to provide all facilities at the relief camps...As per the CWC (Central Water Commission) prediction, the peak (of river Yamuna's water level) will reach by 3-4 pm today and it will then start going down,” Kejriwal told ANI.
