COVID-19: Total coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra reach 10498, death toll climbs to 459

The number of coronavirus cases in India jumped to 31,787 which includes 8,325 cured cases while the deaths toll rose to 1,074. In the last 24 hours, 1,718 new cases and 67 fatalities were reported, as per a data by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday (April 30).

As on Wednesday morning, the number of COVID-19 hotspot districts in India reduced to 129 from 170, and the number of infection-free districts or green zones also decreased from 325 to 307, according to official sources.

Meanwhile, the Centre announced that the new guidelines to fight COVID-19 pandemic will come into effect from May 4, a day after the current lockdown comes to an end on May 3. While there will be easing in some districts, those where a large number of cases have been found will continue to be under stringent restrictions.

One nurse of Delhi's Hindu Rao Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier, a nurse had tested positive after which 76 people were home quarantined. 30 of these tested negative on April 29. Reports of four people came on Thursday of which one is positive.

The Haryana Cabinet approved the proposal of allotment of 18.0 acres of Municipal Corporation, Faridabad land to JC Bose University of Science and Technology (YMCA), Faridabad at present collector rates i.e. Rs three crore per acre and development charge at Rs 120 per square yards, yielding the Municipal Corporation about Rs 56 crore.

Haryana Government has decided to put a complete ban on the purchase of new vehicles including cars and jeeps except buses for public transport and vehicles used for emergency responses including ambulances, fire tenders during the current financial year. A decision in this regard was taken in the Haryana Cabinet which met under the Chairmanship of CM Manohar Lal in Chandigarh. Cabinet has also decided that even in case of very urgent need of a new car or jeep, outsourcing/ hiring of the vehicles should be resorted to rather than outright purchase.

In response to the Centre’s advisory on the return of stranded migrants and others, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday directed all DCs to prepare state-wise data of migrant labourers to coordinate their movement, even as he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrange for point-to-point special trains for the transportation of such persons.

West Bengal state police has formulated guidelines to prevent people from spitting at public places in Kolkata in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19. According to sources in the Kolkata Police, a person who is caught spitting might invite arrest with a case being registered against him and can be charged a fine between Rs.2,000-Rs.5,000 as per the West Bengal Prohibition of Smoking & Spitting & Protection of Health of Non-Smokers & Minors Act.

As Uttar Pradesh prepares for the return of stranded migrants, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to keep ready quarantine centres, shelter homes and community kitchens for about six lakh people. Adityanath also appealed to those stranded in other states to be patient and not start walking towards their homes. "Maintain patience that you have shown till now. A detailed plan is being prepared after contacting states concerned to ensure that all return to their homes safely," he said.

Maharashtra government issues new orders to hospitals in the state:

* Compulsory examination of every patient visiting any hospital. Patients should not be denied admission, government warns private and government hospitals.

* It has been made necessary to create unique ID of every patient.

* Coronavirus positive patients with no symptoms must be shifted to Covid Care Center instead of hospitals.

* In case of death, the last rites should be compulsoryily conducted within 12 hours.

* Dead bodies of COVID patients should be released by hospitals within 30 minutes.

According to a bulletin by the Delhi's Health Department on Wednesday evening, the death toll due to coronavirus in the city reached 56. However, the last three days saw no deaths due to COVID-19 in the national capital. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi rose to 3,500, of which 2, 291 are active cases, the bulletin said. Fourteen people were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday after being cured.
