NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi-powered BJP looks set for a landslide victory in states like UP, Manipur, Goa while Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP was headed for a big win in Punjab after the initial round of counting of votes for the assembly elections 2022 on Thursday.

Uttar Pradesh
The ruling BJP is heading for a big win as the party was leading in 270 seats against 103 of its nearest rival Samajwadi Party out of the total 403 seats in the initial rounds of counting of votes in Uttar Pradesh. Importantly, all the exit polls have predicted a BJP win in the state.
Among those leading included Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karhal, Shivpal Yadav from Jaswant Nagar, and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya from Sirathu.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was leading from Karhal constituency of Uttar Pradesh, according to initial poll trends. While Yadav has secured 7,298 votes so far while his nearest rival Union Minister SP Singh Baghel has got 504 votes, CM Yogi Adityanath was racing ahead in Gorakhpur.
Counting of votes for the 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh began on Thursday morning with three-layer security in place and cameras installed at all counting centres. In the initial rounds, postal ballots were counted. With 80 parliamentary seats, Uttar Pradesh holds the key to power at the centre. A majority for the BJP in the 403-member Assembly would make it the first party to get a consecutive second term in more than three decades.
Uttarakhand
Early leads show the BJP has crossed the halfway mark in Uttarakhand, while the Congress is trailing in the hill state. As per trends available at 10.50 am, early leads gave BJP 45 seats and Congress 21. The Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, and Bahujan Samaj Party got one each in the state where the assembly has 70 seats.
Goa
The BJP is leading in Goa with 20 seats, early trends show. As of 11:00 am, the BJP won 20 seats, while the Congress came behind with 12 in the 40-member house. The Trinamool Congress got 4 and the Aam Aadmi Party only 1 seat, the trends show.
Punjab
In early trends, the AAP crossed the majority mark with 89 seats at 10.50 AM in the 117 Punjab Assembly for which the majority mark is 59, as per Election commission reports. State Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was trailing at second place from the Amritsar East assembly constituency. Punjab Lok Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh is also trailing at second place after the second round of counting. The BJP here is leading in 5 seats as of now.
Charanjit Singh Channi was trailing from Chamkaur Sahib. As per ECI, Congress had 14 followed by SAD (7). Exit polls on Monday predicted a clear victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab with the scale of the party`s victory varying across various surveys.
Manipur
Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 25 assembly seats followed by Congress with 12 seats and Janata Dal (United) with three seats according to early trends by the Election Commission. Parties namely Kuki People`s Alliance, Naga Peoples Front, National People`s Party, Republican Party of India (Athawale) are leading on one seat each at 10:50 am today.
Further, BJP is leading in terms of vote share thereby standing at 45.05 per cent followed by Congress with a 20.66 per cent vote share. The polls were held in two phases and the state witnessed a record 89.3 per cent voter turnout.
