New Delhi: India recorded 43,509 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed on Thursday (July 29, 2021). The country also witnessed a total of 38,465 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 97.38 percent. The total active cases of COVID-19 in India have now mounted to 4,03,840.
The country's death toll has climbed to 4,22,662 with 640 daily fatalities on Thursday, according to Union health ministry data. As per the data, Kerala contributed 22,056 cases to the country's daily numbers, followed by Maharashtra with 6.857 cases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 46,26,29,773 samples have been tested up to July 28 for COVID-19. Of these 17,28,795 samples were tested on Wednesday.

"More than 2.18 Crore (2,18,10,422) balance and unutilized Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs and private hospitals to be administered," said the Ministry of health and family welfare.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3,07,01,612, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34 percent, the data stated. Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far has reached 45.07 crore under the nationwide vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, a Reuters report stated that, WHO said, over the seven days, the highest number of new cases was reported in the United States, which saw more than half a million new infections, representing a skyrocketing 131 percent increase.
According to WHO's data, this rise was followed by Brazil - 324,334 new cases; Indonesia - 289,029 new cases; the United Kingdom - 282,920 new cases; and India - 265,836 new cases. "In the last week, global COVID19 cases increased by ~6.5% and deaths increased by ~20.6% Last week >69,000 people died. This is an absolute travesty because we can prevent deaths," said Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 Technical Lead at WHO.
