Hafiz Saeed is internationally proscribed terrorist, msut be brought to justice soon: India

India on Thursday said that Hafiz Saeed needed to be brought to justice soon.

Delhi: India on Thursday said that Hafiz Saeed was an internationally proscribed terrorist and needed to be brought to justice soon.

Addressing the press, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, "Hafiz Saeed is an internationally proscribed terrorist who's engaged in numerous terror acts. He needs to be brought to justice soon," as per ANI.

Earlier on February 0 7, a Pakistani court had dismissed a petition challenging the detention of Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Saeed.

Lahore High Court Justice Erum Sajjad Gull had dismissed the petition filed by a senior lawyer on 'technical' ground after hearing the arguments.

The court had observed that the petitioner had not furnished the impugned notification of Saeed's detention.

The Pakistani government had on January 30 placed Saeed and four other members of JuD and Falah-e-Insanyat under house arrest for a period of three months invoking Section 11 EEE of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

Punjab government's Home Department had issued the detention order of Saeed.

It was said that Punjab government's action had come amidst pressure on Pakistan from the Donald Trump administration that it must take action against JuD and Saeed to avoid sanctions.

The names of Saeed and 37 other JuD and FIF leaders have also been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) barring them from leaving the country.

JuD is the front for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit which is responsible for numerous terror attacks in India, including the Mumbai terror strike of November 26, 2008, which was masterminded by Saeed.

JuD has already been declared as a foreign terrorist organisation by the United States in June 2014.

Saeed also carries a reward of USD 10 million announced by the US for his role in terror activities.
