New Delhi: Pakistan's 268 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 12 months led to nine deaths, the government informed Parliament on Tuesday.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said the Indian Army retaliated appropriately to the ceasefire violations.

According to data given by the minister, a majority of these violations happened in just two months -- 78 in October 2016 in which two persons died, and 88 in November that killed five others.

"All ceasefire violations are taken up with Pakistan authorities at the appropriate levels through established mechanism of hotlines, flag meetings and weekly exchanges between the Director Generals of Military Operations of the two countries," Bhamre said.
