Women to be given priority in state assembly polls: Thakre

Congress would give priority to women candidates during the state assembly elections, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Manikrao Thakre has said.

women candidates during the state assembly elections,
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President
Manikrao Thakre has said.

Over one lakh women in the state are directly involved
in the running of the administration right from the Gram
Panchayat to Parliament, Thakre said here on Tuesday after the
inauguration of the Congress Women`s Wing district office at
Wadgaon Road village here.

Women would be given priority during the assembly
elections, he said.

State Congress Womens` Wing President Pushpa Bonde
demanded 33 percent reservation for women at the event which
was attended by women party workers in large numbers.

District Contact Minister Vijay Wadettiwar highlighted
the contribution of women since the time of Sarojini Naidu and
asked the gathered to work towards bringing the Congress to
power both at the Centre and state level.

Tributes were paid to martyrs of the Mumbai terror
attack and Naxal carnage at Gadchiroli and a two-minute
silence was observed as a mark of respect.
