Traffic movement restored on Rajasthan roads

Jaipur, June 06: A day after Gurjar leaders withdrew their stir on the quota issue, movement of traffic along the Jaipur-Agra highway and other roads resumed today, much to the relief of thousands affected by blockades during the week-long agitation.

People going to and coming from the state had to face a lot of difficulties following cancellation of bus and many train services during the stand-off over the Gurjars demand for inclusion in the ST category that claimed 21 lives.

Vehicular traffic was restored on National Highway 11 after members from the Gurjar and Meena communities removed the road blockades early this morning.

Gurjar leaders, including Roop Singh, met family members of those killed in police firing during the clashes.

"Normalcy has returned to the villages. Since last night, our members have been assisting the administraon in clearing the road blockades. We welcome the positive outcome from the talks with the government though some of our members had to sacrifice their lives in police firing," Roop Singh said.

Pointing out that many of the injured could not be taken to the hospital because of the road blockades, he said private doctors were providing medical facilities to the wounded in various villages.

Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) and Indian Railways also announced resumption.
