Swiss Travel Company files case against Endeavour travel owner

Zurich-based Kuoni Travel Ltd today moved a city court seeking criminal proceedings against an Indian travel agent Indraneel Mitra, who allegedly duped several football fans who went to Germany to watch the World Cup.

The Swiss company pleaded the court to direct the officer-in-charge of Shakespeare Sarani police station to investigate the allegations against Mitra, proprietor of Endeavour Holidays, and his father Pannalal, who has been
arrested.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jaladhar Mondal allowed the petition and directed Kolkata police to investigate the charges.

City police arrested Pannalal this morning on the basis of an FIR filed by some of the people allegedly duped by Indraneel and his father.

Pannalal has been remanded to police custody for 10 days.

Kuoni travel filed the case through its India office at Mumbai claiming that the accused had forged documents of a private bank and cheated the company of Rs 26.34 lakh.

Kuoni alleged that Mitra had sought ground handling services from it and as such hotel bookings and other arrangements had been made.

It claimed that bank remittance documents had been forged and no money had been credited to its account for the services.
