Subrata attends Mamata rally, PCC peeved, crowd unhappy

Defying the party, West Bengal`s senior Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee today attended a rally of Trinamool Congress here but got a hostile reception from the crowd who dubbed him as a "stooge of CPI(M).

Singur (WB), Sept 16: Defying the party, West
Bengal's senior Congress leader Subrata Mukherjee today
attended a rally of Trinamool Congress here but got a hostile
reception from the crowd who dubbed him as a "stooge of
CPI(M).

Mukherjee, who is the mentor of Trinamool Congress chief
Mamata Banerjee, said at the rally "it is the need of the hour
that everyone should join this mass movement led by Mamata and
protest the treachery of the Left Front government in flouting
the September 7 agreement on Singur signed at Raj Bhavan in
the presence of the Governor."

Though he did not speak about joining Trinamool, he
admitted that his presence did not have his party's sanction.
''I may lose my position in the PCC. My political career may
be doomed.''

As the Trinamool chief introduced Mukherjee as an INTUC
leader, the crowd did not seem happy seeing him on the same
dais and voices were raised that he was "a stooge of the
CPI(M)".

Mukherjee had in the past joined TC and become the Mayor
of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation before returning to
Congress.

Taking exception to Mukherjee's appearing at the TC
rally, WBPCC chief Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said "I asked him not
to go. It is his decision not to obey the party."

Asked if it would be considered an anti-party activity,
Dasmunshi told a private TV channel "the PCC will discuss it.
I won't comment now."

To a question, Dasmunshi, who is also the Information and
Broadcasting minister, said "those who have already made up
their mind to leave, are free to leave. It will not cause any
harm to Congress."
