Chennai, Jan 06: Janata Party leader Dr Subramanian Swamy has sought permission to visit Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi at the prison in Vellore today, where the seer had been lodged after being arrested in the Sankararaman murder case on November 11.
"If the Tamil Nadu government's permission to visit the seer does not come by 5.00 pm. Today, then I will go to the court, because the permission has to come automatically," Swamy told reporters here adding he had known the seer since 1977.

Swamy said he was told by a VHP leader that the seer had wanted to see him and hence he had sought the permission.

Stating that the cases against the seer were "bogus," he said the state government should ask the police to close the case by filing a final report under 173 CRPC(report of officer after completion of the investigation).

Asked why he thought the case had been foisted on the seer, Swamy said it was to "take over the mutt and install a pliable seer."

On the statement of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa that the government had no intention of taking over the mutt, Swamy dismissed it as "an escape clause."
