Washington, Feb 16: Anil Kapoor has said that the gigantic success of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ owes itself to the recession hit people’s preferences for “happy endings and that`s what the world needs”.
The Bollywood veteran revealed that Danny Boyle’s multiple Golden Globes- and Baftas-winning film would not have been the same had it lacked Simon Beaufoy`s "absolutely phenomenal script".
"It`s the story of an underdog, a great love story - it`s like a combination of ‘Rocky’ meeting ‘Gone With the Wind’ or ‘Titanic’!" a website quoted him as telling inthenews.co.uk.
"The best part of the love story is that it has a happy ending and that`s what the world needs.
"There`s recession and depression and suddenly a film comes along that is very gritty and real but still has a happy ending," he added.
The film is up for 10 Oscar nominations at the Academy Awards ceremony on February 22.
