Shahrukh starrer sweeps Dubai Film Awards

Dubai, Jan 29: Blockbuster 'Main Hoon Na' swept the honours at Dubai's first Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) with Shahrukh Khan bagging the Best Actor Award and Farah Khan being selected as the Best Director for the film.

Rani Mukherjee won the Best Actress Award for her performance in the film 'Hum Tum'.

The awards, chosen by fans from across the Middle East, were presented to Hindi films released during 2004.

Close to 15,000 people attended the glitzy and glamorous awards ceremony here, which also boasted of power-packed performances by Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Lara Dutta and Shahid Kapur.

The awards were presented by popular stars, including Salman Khan, John Abraham, Feroz Khan and Bipasha Basu.

The ceremony also paid tributes to yesteryears stars like Mehmood, Parveen Babi and Amrish Puri.

"I would like to thank the people of Dubai who made the awards such a great success. The Global Indian Film Awards found loads of encouragement from the people of Dubai," Sameer Khan, VP Global Events and GIFA's official spokesperson said.

GIFA was conceptualized to acknowledge excellence in the Indian film industry and honour artists in 23 categories across various genres, from acting to film making, he said.

Nominations for GIFA had been invited from films released in the India during the period January 2004 to December 2004.
