Mumbai, Feb 07: Shah Rukh does not like to lag behind, even if the credit of being innovative usually goes to Aamir Khan. After turning ‘Ghajini’ haircut into a craze, the promotional strategies are getting the right ‘cut’. This time Shah Rukh has invited four hundred barbers from across Maharashtra to grace the premiere of his film that is based on the life of a barber.
‘Billu Barber’ sounds like a ghostly imitation of Oscar winning Hollywood musical ‘Sweeny Todd’, but it is not. Rather it has parallels to legendary Krishna-Sudama friendship. Where Irrfan Khan plays a barber, Shah Rukh plays a glamorous star who is his childhood friend.
Confirming the news, director Priyadarshan said, "Instead of having celebs over for the premiere of Billu Barber, Shah Rukh has planned to invite 400 barbers and their families to the premiere. His idea is to welcome barbers for the premiere on February 12, as the film revolves around Irrfan Khan, who plays a barber. Things are just getting organised for the première and the office is also in talks with the barbers’ association to get everything sorted for the big day.”
This Red Chillies’ production’s efforts are well timed, for considerable clout will be needed to placate ‘The Salon and Beauty Parlors Association’ that is miffed with the term ‘Barber’ in the title of the film, considering it derogatory. Even a separate screening has been demanded by them to gauge the ‘insult’quotient’ of the movie.
"But I want it to be held on February 9, so that if there`s anything objectionable in the film, we can get it changed. If they don`t, the association members will take to the streets to protest against the film. There are 27000 association members in Mumbai and 3.5 lakh in Maharashtra." Uday Takke, The President of the association told a news daily.
