Puducherry, Oct 09: A sessions court on Monday posted the
hearing in the Sankararaman murder case, in which the Kanchi
seers Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi
are the prime accused, to October 30, following a Supreme
Court order staying the further trial.
The stay was given on a special leave petition by the
defence counsel challenging the appearance of Tamil Nadu
public prosecutor in the trial conducted here. The matter was
still pending before the apex court.
Of the total 24 accused in the case, only 12 turned up at
the court today.
Separate petitions were filed before the principal
district and sessions judge of Puducherry, M Chinnapandi,
citing reasons for the absence of the 12 persons, including
the two seers.
The case pertains to the September, 2004, murder of the
manager of Varadaraja Perumal temple in Kauncheepuram.
