Agra: Taking advantage of the Independence Day holiday, a large number of tourists visited the Taj Mahal on Saturday. According to official sources, the number of visitors crossed 25,000.

The Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri also were crowded as the weather was pleasant after several spells of drizzles. A large number of visitors had turned up after taking part in the Janmashtmi celebrations in Mathura.

The Taj looked dazzling white after it was washed clean by by rain. The lush green lawns of the Taj and the cloudy backdrop made the scene picture perfect, according to Hashmat, a guide.

That the swine flu scare had not deterred visitors was clear from the long queues at both the gates of the Taj Mahal and the over-crowded parking lot at the Shilpgram complex and the monument`s western gate.
