New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday hit out at Baba Ramdev’s movement against corruption and black money saying that the Sangh Parivar was behind Ramdev’s movement.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Delhi, Congress spokesperson, Jayanti Natarajan said that Ramdev’s “anti-corruption movement was a political conspiracy”.
Outlining the chronology of events related to Ramdev’s movement the Congress leader said that on April 12 AVBP had formed a movement called Youth Against Corruption under Baba Ramdev’s patronage. Then again on May 20, Suresh Joshi, senior RSS official had issued a dictum asking all the cadres to support the Baba. Again as per Jayanti, on May 28, Ashok Singhal of the VHP had expressed the same views.

Congress spokesperson said that this exposed the “backing, patronage and agenda to polarize the society and created confusion”. She also stated that it was shocking to see Sadhvi Ritambhara share the dias with Baba Ramdev at Ramlila maidan.
Expressing dismay at Baba Ramdev’s statement that he will arm 11,000 young men to fight corruption, the Congress leader said that this was tantamount to an “armed rebellion against the constitution and the rule of law". Attacking the opposition, Jayanti asked the BJP to “answer to the country” as to where they stand on Ramdev’s call for armed rebellion.

Also slamming Anna Hazare’s call for a second freedom movement, Jayanti Natrajan said that the government was a lawfully elected government and any such statement on a legitimate institution was unacceptable.

The Congress leader also questioned whether it was right on the part of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj to meet Ramdev today. While condemning the act of BJP leaders dancing at Rajghat two days earlier, Jayanti said that by doing so, “the BJP defied the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and the seriousness of the purpose”.

Reiterating government’s stand on the issue of corruption, Jayanti Natrajan said that, “the government has stated its firm commitment to fight corruption and bring the Lokpal Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament”.
