Mumbai, Feb 06: Abhay Deol’s much awaited `Dev D`, a modern version of `Devdas`, has released all over this Friday. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film has Abhay Deol in the lead role, with debutantes Mahi Gill and Kalki Koechlin play the female leads. ‘Dev D’ reportedly takes a new angle on the Gen-X romance that breaks all love stereotypes.

The film is set in rural Punjab and also explores the dark underbelly of Delhi. Dev, who was sent to London, returns to his hometown and gets to meet his childhood love Paro (Mahi) after 12 years. His life is topsy-turvy when he finds that Paro has already married some other guy.

Where Paro chooses to move on with dignity in life, Dev (like Devdas), gets badly hit by misery and depression.

Poor Dev then comes across a prostitute called Chanda (Kalki) who lives life on the edge. Victim of a disastrous MMS scandal, the prostitute is disowned by her family and is compelled to isolation.

Well, ‘Devdas’ has been made more than once in Bollywood before, but this one truly appears to be very fresh and unusual with a completely out of the box view.

With such a contemporary approach, this one appears to be a must watch.
