Jaipur, Jan 07: Rajasthan government yesterday refused
to accept levy of four percent Central Sales Tax (CST) in the
VAT regime saying it discriminates against non-producing
states.

"We received a communication today form empowered
committee dealing with the vat issue that in the first year of
implementation of VAT, a CST of four percent would be levied
and the case for further years could be discussed later,
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje told reporters.

VAT and CST cannot go together and i cant live with
four percent CST, Raje said.

I have asked the chairman of the empowered committee
to clarify the road map before implementing VAT, she said.

Rajasthan may consider accepting two percent CST
along with VAT which could be reduced gradually in coming years
and withdrawn completely, Raje said.

I have to take in to consideration concerns of consumer
state because producing state can live with CST but we can’t,
she said.
