Mumbai, Feb 11: Partnership between police and the media was essential to highlight the strengths of the police force, according to renowned film director Govind Nihalani.
Speaking at an interactive meeting on "Media and Police", organised by Indian Merchant Chambers here yesterday, he said the media - both news and films - should take into account the weakness, compulsions and achievements of the police while potraying them.
"Some criticism is understood but always potraying them poorly is not good," he said adding that it was the duty of the news media to portray the truth.
Stressing the role of the media to improve the image of the police, he said it was necessary to properly highlight their achievements.
"Even policemen are humans and are bound to have strengths and weaknesses," Nihalani said adding, "if there is corruption, it needs to be fought and thrown out, as having a good police is essential for society".
