Pak theatre group to visit J&K

Jammu, Jan 23: After Pakistani journalists and pilgrims, it is now the turn of a theatre group from the neighbouring country to undertake a five-day visit to the city of temples beginning Thursday.

Pakistani theatre group Ajoka led by stage personality and actress Medeeha Gowhar will tour the city as part of efforts to strengthen social and cultural contacts between the people of the two countries, vice chancellor of Jammu University, Prof Amitabh Mattoo said here.

Ajoka is a well known group in the sub-continent trying to foster relations between India and Pakistan through cultural exchange programmes, he said.

The group has performed in several parts of India and is known for plays like 'Ek Thi Naani' featuring veteran actress Zohra Sehgal, he added. The group is visiting Jammu on the invitation of Prof Mattoo.

During their visit to the city, the troupe will perform Qawwalis, based on the life and message of Sufi saint Bulleh Shah in Jammu University Auditorium on January 28. On January 29, a popular Punjabi play 'Bullah' will be staged by the group in Abhinav Theatre for the Civil Society.

On January 30, the same play will be performed for Jammu University faculty members, employees and students, he said.

The contingent will also interact with the Jammu University students and faculty members during the visit.
