Onam preparation begins

Kottayam: "Thiruvonathoni" temple boat,
carrying special provisions as part of traditional offer of
Onam feast to Parthasarathy temple at Aranmula in
Pathanamthitta district on Onam day on September 2 began its
journey from Kumaranalloor here on Sunday.

M R Narayana Bhattathiri, hailing from the Mangattu family
which traditionally has the right to take the feast to the
temple, took the provisions in the tastefully decorated boat
this afternoon.

He arrived at the Devi temple at Kumaranalloor today to
seek blessings before starting his journey through the
Meenachil river.

He will return after the evening puja on Wednesday. It is
believed that Mangattu family in Kumaranalloor had migrated
from Aranmula centuries back.
