Amritsar, Aug 27: Bollywood starlet Monica Bedi
on Monday offered prayers, washed dishes and swept floors at the
golden temple here in atonement of her "past mistakes".

Dressed in a pink `salwar kameez` and accompanied by her
father Prem Bedi and uncle Parshottam Bedi, Monica first paid
obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum where the Guru Granth Sahib
is kept.

The actress, who was released last month after her
incarceration in connection with a passport forgery case,
quietly wept while shabd kirtan (hymns) were being rendered
in the background.

After paying obeisance, she partook of the food at the
langar (community kitchen) and cleaned utensils of other
devotees. Broom in hand, Monica also swept the marbled floor
on the periphery of Harmandir Sahib.

She then drank amrit from its olive-green pool.

Monica told reporters she visited the holiest of Sikh
shrines "to offer thanks to Waheguru so I can once again lead
a normal life. I begged him to pardon me for my past
mistakes".

It was with the "grace of god" that she was able to
overcome the trials and tribulations of her life, she said.

Gangster Abu Salem and his alleged companion Monika were
extradited to India from Portugal on November 11, 2005, after
the CBI`s warrant against them in the 1993 Mumbai serial
blasts case.

Monica was released from a Hyderabad jail on July 25.
