Imphal, Sept 17: A militant has been shot dead in an encounter and a powerful bomb recovered in separate incidents in Manipur, official sources said.
A combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel who were patrolling Singjamei Khongnang Pheidekpi area in Imphal West district last night grew suspicious after noticing some unknown persons in the area.
When asked to stop, the persons fired at the security personnel, the sources said.
In the ensuing encounter one unidentified militant was killed and some others escaped, the sources said.
One revolver, one grenade and some rounds of ammunition
were recovered from the spot.
In another incident, a powerful bomb was recovered from the roadside at Telipati area here this morning, the sources said.
The sources said the bomb might have been planted by militants to attack security personnel.
Over 270 persons have been killed by militants in Manipur this year.
