London, Jan 26: Britain's well known Indian actors Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar, have tied the knot in a register office at Lichfield, Staffs.

43-year-old Meera, who plays 40-year-old Sanjeev's grandmother in the BBC comedy 'Kumars at Number 42', said "We are both ecstatically happy."

"It happened on Friday in Staffordshire at a register office. It was a very small family gathering with no show business friends. We are quite a private couple and just wanted a small family affair. It was good fun. We have not even talked about a honeymoon yet, we have been too busy," she said.

The couple held a small party after the ceremony in Lichfield. Milli, Meera's 11-year-old daughter from her first marriage, was her bridesmaid. Sanjeev and Meera had planned the wedding for three months but kept it a secret.

They have known each other for ten years and made news with another BBC comedy goodness gracious me!.

They are now working together on a film adaptation of Meera's novel 'Life Isn't All Ha Ha, Hee Hee'. Meera plays the lead role with Sanjeev as her husband and Milli as her screen daughter.

Meera, who was conferred an MBE in 1997, has already had a hit film with her autobiographical novel 'Anita and Me'. And she wrote the script for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Bombay Dreams for which A R Rehman provided the music.
