New York, June 27: Singer/songwriter Liz Phair will kick off her first extensive tour in four years on July 21 in San Francisco.

The artist will be out in support of the just-released "Liz Phair," her first Capitol set since 1998's "whitechocolatespaceegg." Sondre Lerche and Jason Mraz will support at all shows except the Aug. 21-22 finales in Chicago.

An Aug. 8 show at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park will be part of the On the Bricks summer concert series, and will also feature Hootie & the Blowfish, Tonic, and the Clarks. In New York, Phair will play at both the intimate Bowery Ballroom (Aug. 8) and the much larger Roseland (Aug. 10).

Beforehand, Phair will appear Friday on ABC's "The Jimmy Kimmel Show." Fans can enter a drawing to attend the taping via Phair's newly redesigned official Web site (http://www.lizphair.com).

The upcoming dates are positioning the usually indie-minded Phair to win a host of new fans. The new album's first single, "Why Can't I?," was co-produced and co-written with the Matrix (Avril Lavigne) and is No. 20 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart this week.

"This album represents me trying to get the voice of an authentic woman where young girls will hear it," Phair told Billboard. "I feel very frustrated with music and women and their role. I hope to God I can take my name at the end of this and make my own little recordings, but nobody made me do anything. If you hate this, point at me."
