Mumbai, April 22: Bollywood’s attraction for Hollywood is well demonstrated by the umpteen number of desi remakes of foreign blockbusters. Be it gutsy stunts or jaw clinching action sequences or subtle weepy stories, B-town taskmasters know the immaculate art of stealing. Having perfected the copycat act, our filmmakers have now gone a step further and have moved on from replicating foreign films to copying their ad campaigns.
Credit for one such act goes to Tarun Mansukhani, whose ‘Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta’ targetted at voters is an out-and-out copy of Hollywood`s ‘Don`t Vote’ commercial.

Though the director has rebuffed such claims, the similarity between the two videos cannot be denied. The video stars leading Bollywood actors like Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Imran Khan, Asin, Shahid Kapur, Riteish Deshmukh, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Karan Johar.

Playing with voters’ reverse psychology, the video begins on a dreary hopeless note that progresses to show the benefits of voting.

The video begins with Abhishek Bachchan and other actors singing `Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta` as they speak about the ills of society like corruption, unemployment affecting the country. However, tone of the commercial that starts on a negative aspect goes to show hope and change that can be brought about by voting.

What makes the video a copy of the Hollywood ad, is the plain fact that the other video too starts with stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston addressing burning issues affecting their country in a sarcastic and satirical manner.

But towards the end, they too go on to state the change that voting alone can bring.

However, even after such an eye-popping similarities between the two videos, the director maintains that he hasn’t even seen or heard of any such Hollywood video. Speaking to a news daily, Tarun said, "I have not seen the ‘Don`t Vote’ campaign and know nothing about it. I don`t think we need to emulate the Americans as we are capable of addressing out issues on our own. The motive behind making ‘Kuch Nahi Ho Sakta’ was simple that people should watch it and realise the importance of their vote."
