The shocking gang rape and murder of two young women, Nilofer Jan and Asia Jan, allegedly by security forces in Shopian continued to make headlines all round the year. The incident attracted widespread protests across Jammu & Kashmir as initially police refused to file FIR.

After widespread protest and violence, J&K CM intervened and ordered a judicial probe under the supervision of Retired Justice Muzaffar Jan into the incident.

Till date, the incident is making headlines as allegations of tampering with the proof including the DNA of the women keep surfacing.
Brave Rukhsana

The bravery of 22 year old Rukhsana Kausar also made headlines this year after she killed a top LeT militant and injured another in Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir.

A group of terrorists had barged into Rukhsana`s house on the night of September 27. She, along with her brother, overpowered LeT`s Abu Osama, snatched his AK-47 and fired at him, killing him on the spot.

Government recognised her bravery and gave her a bravery award. Salute to such bravehearts!
Omar Abdullah resignation and assembly drama

J&K Assembly witnessed high intensity drama on July 28, this year after PDP leader Muzaffar Beig accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of being involved in 2006 Srinagar sex scandal.

The comments attracted fierce opposition from National Conference MLAs and also from an Omar who immediately rushed to the Governor NN Vohra to submit his resignation.

Though the Governor refused to accept his resignation, the message from Omar was heard laud and clear.
