Johannesburg, March 26: Finally, IPL governing body has come out with the schedule of IPL-2. According to the schedule, which was released on Thursday, the opening match will take place at Newlands in Cape Town while Wanderers Stadium of Johannesburg will host the all important semi-finals and the finals.
The tournament stars with the opening match on April 18 at Cape Town. It will end on April 24 with the final of the lucrative event.
In addition to that high-profile encounter, the Wanderers, South Africa`s largest, will also host a semifinal the day before as well as six other IPL matches.
The IPL in conjunction with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, agreed to move the tournament out of India for its second season after failing to get guarantees from the Indian government over security for the event that is scheduled to take place during India`s general elections.
The 59-game competition is due to take place over five weeks starting on April 18 with the opening match taking place at Newlands in Cape Town.
The matches will be held at eight venues in total. The opening encounter will take place between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Modi also clarified that official broadcaster Sony would telecast the match in three languages, English, Hindi and Bengali.
