Kolkata, March 25: Just hours after being dethroned as the `fixed` captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team, a visibly upset Sourav Ganguly said that he was not consulted on the captaincy issue and that he came to know about it from the press.

“I was not consulted on the captaincy issue before the final decision was made,” Sourav said while talking to a news channel.

“I learnt about it from the press,” added the southpaw.

Ganguly also added that a team can be expected to do well only if it has a set squad and that cricket was all about giving players confidence and security.
Ganguly also made it clear that it was the coach`s decision and he would be answerable for it.

"I have got nothing to say on this (multiple captaincy). I won`t just take it in any manner. He (Buchanan) feels that`s the way for Knight Riders to win," Ganguly said.

"There are lot of theories which go around in the game but at the end cricket is a very simple game. It`s the runs you scored, the number of wickets you take that decide the
matches and I am sure it will remain the same way," he added.

Ganguly also made it clear that the decision was yet to be taken on the issue.

"The captaincy has not been decided as yet... So there`s no question of me getting upset. We will have to wait and see," he said after returning to his Behala residence from the Knight Riders camp at Eden Gardens.

The Bengal star, obviously, knows that the buck will stop with team boss Shah Rukh Khan who will take a final call.Incidentally, Shah Rukh has already voiced support for
Ganguly and had recently rubbished reports of removing the Bengal left-hander from captaincy.

"I won`t comment on such talks... Ganguly and I are too self-respecting to cater to all the write-ups... You should support the team and Ganguly and make sure the team shines one day. We respect Ganguly`s genius," he had said.

Thus, it remains to be seen how the team boss will take Buchanan`s idea of multiple captaincy and Ganguly not being at the helm. The Bengal ace also said condition in South Africa will be ideal for batting.

"The conditions in South Africa will be bouncy and the wickets will be good to play with. Look at India-New Zealand series. Lots of runs are scored and the players are having a lot of fun."

"This time, the situation is different with security being the main concern. Election is bigger than everything... so the option was to shift the venue. There was not much
option left with the franchise," he added.

After the shift of venue to South Africa, IPL Part 2 has been curtailed by a week and will now be held between April 18-May 24.
