I share better chemistry with Masakalli than Sonam: Abhishek

Abhishek unravels his hopes from the film and the shades of his character in a candid chat, exclusively with Spicezee.com.

Abhsihek Bachchan has been called Burger Chhaap by Bittu aka Sonam Kapoor in ‘Delhi 6’, and the creative epithet requires an interesting personality to be deserved. Keeping the expectations of an interesting and free-flowing conversation intact, Abhishek unravels his hopes from the film and the shades of his character in a candid chat, exclusively with Spicezee.com.
Q : How did you find working with Bittu, the bubbly Sonam, in ‘Delhi 6’?

Abhishek :Bittu troubles me a lot. When we were shooting the scene where I am lying on a charpoy and Bittu gargles on me, the director doubled up with laughter because I wasn’t aware of it! They had quite a lot of fun at my expense, but she (Sonam Kapoor as Bittu) will pay me back. (eyes twinkling)

Q : How did you find working with Masakalli, the unusual costar?

Abhishek :Masakalli is a wonderful co-star. I prefer her to Sonam any day! She is very beautiful – pristine white, very punctual, very professional, and Masakalli always sits still. While Sonam never sits still and talks a lot. I share a better chemistry with Masakalli than with Sonam!

Q :Were you not taken aback by this smallest member of the cast?

Abhishek :I knew the script so I was aware that Masakalli is a bird. I liked the song when I heard it.

Q :How was it working for the first time with Rishi Kapoor?

Abhishek :It is like a dream come true for me. I am a fan of Chintu uncle. I am so happy I got a chance to work with him. He is an outstanding actor.

Q :You have done quite a number of serious roles in your carer. Did this ‘cool-dude’ NRI role come as a different experience?

Abhishek :I don’t agree that I have conformed to the tag of a serious actor. I have done all kinds of roles in my career that cannot be categorised to a single genre. For every ‘Sarkar’ there has been a ‘Bunty Aur Babli; for every ‘Sarkar Raj’ there has been a ‘Dostana’. I cannot be labelled as any single kind of actor. I have taken up all kinds of roles.

Q :You have had quite a number of not so successful films before your movies started topping BO charts. How has been the journey from then to now?

Abhishek :It has not been an easy journey. But it has been a great, a wonderful journey no doubt. It has been a nice learning curve – that is the most important thing. I wouldn’t have learnt half as much without the string of flops I gave at the beginning of my career. Nobody reaches the pinnacle with just constant success.

Q :It has been said that you act like your mother Jaya Bachchan. Is it really so?

Abhishek :My mother tells me my acting style is like hers. I came to know of this fact through her.

Q :What is your favourite music album from among your movies till date?

Abhishek :’Delhi 6’ is the best album till date. This film is almost like a milestone. I have loved all the music by AR Rahman - be it ‘Guru’ or ‘Yuva’. But ‘Delhi 6’ is by far my favourite.

Q :Any particular track from ‘Delhi 6’ which is your favourite?

Abhishek :I love all the tracks from ‘Delhi 6’. The entire album is my favourite. My choice keeps changing everyday. When I wake up in the morning, I realise I love a different ‘Delhi 6’ track than the last day!

Q :We have recently been seeing the trend of actors passing controversial comments just before the release of their films. Do you also believe in this kind of publicity-seeking stunts? What do you think makes actors launch in such statements?

Abhishek :It is part of our work to talk to people. Before the release of any film, the actors who have worked in the movie talk about their work to the people and media. I think this availability to the press after a prolonged unavailability is bound to create some waves. In the press meets, a lot of questions are targeted and that need to be answered. So it would seem like barbs aimed at someone or something, but which are actually answers to the tricky questions that the actors have to put up with.

Q :Have you ever tried blogging, like the very famous blogs by your father Amitabh Bachchan?

Abhishek :I have never thought about blogging. I would certainly love to interact with my fans on one-to-one basis, but blogging requires a lot of time and dedication. I don’t have that much time.

Q :Aishwarya has become the first Indian to have her movie ‘Pink Panther 2’ released in 3000 prints across the globe. How did you react to this great news?

Abhishek :Wow! That is fantastic. It is wonderful. ‘Pink Panther 2’ is great fun movie and a great franchise in itself. That Aishwarya got a chance to work with such greats over time is such a wonderful thing. It is great!

Q :Being a Bachchan must be a great responsibility. Does this ever affect the kind of roles you undertake? And does this tend to drag you into controversies more often than general?

Abhishek :Carrying this legendary family name is a great responsibility. My grandfather gave me this title and as a grandson I owe it to him for starting my family and for the greatness attached to my title. But the greater thing is doing our work – that is entertaining people. My job is not to let down my fans. The focus of the script is on entertainment, which is what matters – I look at the script and decide if I will be able to do my work properly. The script aims at entertainment, very rarely is it controversial or offensive, even when it is, it is certainly unintentional.

Q :Who helps you out in such a dilemma?

Abhishek :In such a dilemma, the entire family helps, no doubt!
