Mumbai, Feb 15: Bubbly and bewitching Sonam Kapoor talks about her singlehood, ‘Delhi 6’ and her life in an exclusive interview with Spicezee.com. The bindaas attitude smoothens the conversation as words flow fast and interestingly.
Q: Why did it take such a long time for ‘Delhi 6’ to show its glimpse? We have been waiting for a year.
Sonam: It took a long time because it needs time to dish out a quality product. ‘Delhi 6’ is a wonderfully made film and for one year we all worked hard.
Q: The character you play in the movie seems very tailor made. Did you prepare much for that particular character?
Sonam: Yes, I did a lot of work on the character. The role needed a lot of preparation. I observed and researched the mannerism of a Punjabi girl. Delhi girls also have this special accent, which I have copied in the movie.
Q: With whom did you share a better chemistry in the film – Masakalli or Abhishek?
Sonam: My chemistry was better with Abhishek, certainly. It had everyone complimenting us. When the ‘Rehna tu’ promo was out, we faced a burst of phone calls exclaiming about the wonderful chemistry Abhishek and I shared.
Q: Is the movie about Bittu and Roshan’s love story?
Sonam: The love story of Bittu and Roshan is a part of the film, and not the whole. The movie is about the people of Chandni Chowk, and Bittu is one of them.
Q: How did you like the food of Delhi, that we can see you enjoying in the promos?
Sonam: I love the food of Delhi. The food quality is by far the best in India, and me being a foodie, I had a gala time.
Q: What does Bittu do, besides singing and dancing with Masakalli?
Sonam: Bittu is a young girl, and like all other common young girls, she talks to her friends, takes care of her brother and spends time with her parents.
Q: Did you rehearse your steps when you danced with Masakalli perched on your head?
Sonam: I am a trained dancer so I did not have much difficulty doing the steps with Masakalli (the dove). I did not practice much, for my choreographer just asked me to remember the steps and do it before the camera. It gives more authenticity and zing to the dance, as we don’t get time to go mechanical. I am still to do a full dance film to show my skill as a dancer.
Q: What is burger chhaap that we get to hear in one of the promos?
Sonam: Burger chhaap is a term for an NRI that Bittu uses only for Roshan in the film.
Q: How did your parents like the movie?
Sonam: My parents have returned from America today itself so I am yet to ask them how they liked the trailers.
Q: Your plain, simple look in the movie has been appreciated a lot by everyone, and you are said to have that natural beauty that does not require any enhancements. What do you say to that?
Sonam: I always thought that it required a lot of make up to look beautiful. If people have appreciated my simple look, then it is a great compliment. If appreciation is got without make-up, like I have worn cotton suits, have remain uncombed in the movie, then I would suggest to the girls that it is after all not that necessary to be decked up!
Q: This being the Valentine’s Day, how do you find being single? Do you enjoy your single status? And why haven’t you found a partner yet?
Sonam: I am happy in my single state. I enjoy being single, but it is not that I plan to be like this. The thing is that there are no good guys left in Mumbai. All the good options are booked! I can choose from the non-glamorous options, too, but I haven’t found anyone so far.
Q: What would be your message to a possible non-glamorous guy, who might be one of your fans, too?
Sonam: Hi, I am Sonam, and I am single.
Q: What would you go for – love marriage or arranged marriage?
Sonam: I would opt for love, but with my parents’ approval. I would not go against their wishes. But it certainly has to be my choice. And about getting Papa to agree to my choice, I am confident I can do that. Everything is possible.
Q: Bollywood heroines indulge in bitching and leg-pulling a lot, do you also participate?
Sonam: I am not at all into these things.
Q: What about that tiff with Deepika over Ranbir?
Sonam: I know Deepika very well and she is a wonderful person. I know this news of tiff between us was born last years – God knows how!
Q: What would you do after ‘Delhi 6’ is released?
Sonam: I will be holidaying, and will take out time for myself. I will go to New York or Kerala with friends…because it is more fun to be with friends than with parents.
