New Delhi, Feb 10: Nestled in the Himalayas, Ananda Resort has been rated as the world's number one spa by the popular travel and tourism magazine Conde Nast Traveller.

Ananda won the top position in the best spa retreat category of the 2005 Conde Nast Traveller Retreat Spa Awards.
In the third annual reader awards, the resort, built on 100 acres of forest and enjoying views of the Ganges and the Himalayas, was also rated as the overall best spa in the world across all categories.
Ananda is built around a Maharaja's palace estate and located 260 km north of Delhi. It features a restored viceroy's palace, a 21,000 sq ft spa and 75 deluxe rooms and suites.
At number two was Como Shambala at Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos, while Givenchy spa, One&only Le Saint Geran in Mauritius was ranked third.

The premier magazine for travel, adventure and culture, recognising the enormous importance of the spa industry, had asked its readers in November last year to vote on the best spa in the world.

Each category was rated according to a number of criteria, including ambience/atmosphere, staff, treatment, amenities/products, cuisine, individual approach etc.
