Haryana announces awards for books

Chandigarh, Nov 19: Haryana Sahitya Akademi has announced awards for books and financial assistance for publication of books for the year 2004-05.

Chandigarh, Nov 19: Haryana Sahitya Akademi has announced awards for books and financial assistance for publication of books for the year 2004-05.

A spokesman of the Akademi said here today that more than 90 books were received for awards. He said that the Akademi has invited books written by those authors, who hailed from Haryana and their books were published between April 1, 2003 and March 31, 2004.

These awards were for books in Hindi or Haryanavi. In all five books of Hindi language for award of Rs 10,000 each had been chosen.

These included a book on poems entitled "Maha Kavya Hazrat Mohammad" by Sugam Chand Mukhtesh of Sirsa, in the category of stories, "Shikargah" by Gian Prakash Vivek, play entitled "Mar Gaya Jai Hind" by Sumer Chand of Sonipat and in the category of essay "Ma He Makhan Khayo" by Jaswinder Sharma of Panchkula.

Similarly, in the category of folk literature the book entitled "Sanskriti Ke Stambh" written by Dr Puran Chand Sharma of Rohtak had been chosen for the award, he said adding the announcement for award in category of novel would be made later.

The book entitled "Ashutosh Granthawalli" by Dr Mange Ram Sharma of Rohtak has also been chosen for an award of Rs 10,000 under Harnayavi Book Award scheme.

He said that in case of Hindi story competition, which was organised by the Akademi during 2004-05, 61 stories were received from 38 writers, hailing from Haryana, but only three were chosen for awards.
