Girl gets into college that doesn`t exist: DNA

After scoring a creditable 88.62% in this year`s SSC exams, Ruhika Fernandes would have slept well. Admission to a good college should not be a problem, she would have thought.

Vashi: After scoring a creditable 88.62% in this year`s SSC exams, Ruhika Fernandes would have slept well. Admission to a good college should not be a problem, she would have thought. However, some days later, she finds herself tossing and turning through the night. Reason: She is enrolled in a college that is still being built.
The first merit list for admission in junior college was declared on Tuesday. It seems to contain discrepancies which have angered and frustrated parents and students alike.

Consider Ruhika, who passed out of Fr Agnel Multipurpose School in Vashi. Instead of getting admission to a college of her choice, she is enrolled in an institution whose building is still under construction in Koparkhairane.

As Vashi residents, the family had opted for Fr Agnel Junior College as the first choice since Ruhika has studied in the same institute since kindergarten. Her second preference was St Mary`s Junior College situated in sector 9, Vashi.

"To our shock, we found Ruhika`s name in Yashwantrao Chavan Junior College, run by Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Education, Science and Technological Research Trust, an institute one had hardly heard of.When we visited the place in Koparkhairane, we were horrified to find that the building was still under construction. We don`t know where to go and what to do," said Brian Fernandes, her father.

Ruhika`s mother Candida said, "I worry for my child`s future. We have no choice but to pay the fees here and get the child admitted right now, but I wonder if the college will refund our fees in case her name appears [elsewhere] in the second list."
