Foreign tourists to pay entry fees for visiting Ladakh

Jammu, Mar 30: In order to generate more revenue, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council has decided tocollect entry fees from foreign tourists visiting the Ladakh frontier in Jammu and Kashmir from April.

Jammu, Mar 30: In order to generate more revenue, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council has decided to
collect entry fees from foreign tourists visiting the Ladakh frontier in Jammu and Kashmir from April.

"This has been done to generate more revenue for
development of Ladakh," Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC,
Rigzin Spalbar told.

The entry fee has been fixed at Rs 400 each for
tourists visiting the general areas. An inner line permission
fee of Rs 800 each has also been fixed for other areas.

In addition, he said lifting of restrictions for
foreign tourists visiting some border areas of Ladakh was also
under active consideration of the government.

The money would be used on promotion of tourism,
ecology and environment in Ladakh, he said.
Spalbar also called for setting up an advisory
committee comprising of experts, who would suggest and
recommend utilisation of the collected money.
