Congress will never join hands with BJP: Digvijay

Congress general secretary, Digvijay Singh on Sunday said that there was no way in which his party would ever join hands with the BJP to form a government at the Centre.

Bhopal, May 10: Congress general secretary,
Digvijay Singh on Sunday said that there was no way in which his
party would ever join hands with the BJP to form a government
at the Centre.

Singh said that there were many ideological
differences between the two parties to come together even for
the sake of the nation.

He said Congress is a largely liberal party while BJP
has got a very narrow-minded approach on most of the issues.

Singh, who is also a former Madhya Pradesh chief
minister, said that BJP needs to explain to the nation why it
supports organisations which are communal in nature.

The Congress general secretary also said that as
opposed to his party which was totally secular in nature, the
BJP was a highly communal party and hence there could be no
truck with it.

About the current Lok Sabha elections, he said that
the Congress hoped to do better than what it did in 2004 but
said that no one has been able to read the mind of the Indian
voters.

It is because of this that most of the surveys
conducted during elections generally go wrong, he said.

When asked who would form the next government at the
Centre, Singh said that this question can be answered rightly
only after May 16 when results would be out.

When told that some parties favoured NCP leader,
Sharad Pawar as Prime Minister, he said that the NCP will not
have the numbers to make him reach the top post.

The Congress general secretary however said that in
case, the NCP did manage to get around 180 Lok Sabha seats on
its own, the Congress would have no problem in supporting it.

On the Left, Singh said it was strange that the
economic reforms which it opposed in New Delhi were the ones
which it implemented in West Bengal.

He said that the left had withdrawn support from the
UPA government on the issue of the nuclear deal with the US
but that matter was not there now.

When told that Samajwadi Party president, Mulayam
Singh Yadav had said that his party would support the
formation which dismisses Mayawati government in Uttar
Pradesh, he said that no elected government can be dismissed
just like that.
