New Dellhi, Feb 08: Workers at the Tihar Jail are being issued computerised photo identity cards in place of their old I-cards. Though officials say it is a step to enable uniformity in identification, it is well seen as a move to plug all security loopholes.
Till recently the gazetted and non-gazetted workers at the jail had old fashion cards. In some cards even the photos were torn. This made it nearly impossible to identify each worker every time that he entered the jail premises. Yet, they got entry without verifying their identity.

The Tamil Nadu Special Police(TSP), which is responsible for the jail's external and internal security, have often found themselves in a fix over letting in staff without proper identification. In some cases, they complained that the name is partially visible and in some cards the photo is corrupted or half-torn.
