Buddhadeb Dasgupta chosen for Golden Athena Award

Days after his `Kalpurush` was chosen for the National Award, eminent Bengali film-maker Buddhadeb Dasgupta has been chosen for Greece`s coveted Golden Athena award, India`s first to be bestowed the honour.

Dasgupta said he has been informed of the honour by
festival director Orestis Andreadakis.

The award is the grand prize of of the Athens
International Film Festival where a restropective of seven of
Dasgupta`s films will be screened between September 20 and 30.

Earlier the award had been given to Kim Ki Duk, Daniel
Day Lewis and Cistas Gavras.

"It always feels good getting awards but I never give
them much importance. You have to see that awards do not take
away the sense of humility from your system", the director
told reporters here.

Speaking about his latest film `Ami, Yasin Arr Amar
Madhubala` (The Voyeurs), centering around a small town girl
who is faced with lack of her own space in a world of webcams
and internet as she settles in the metropolis, he said
"blending reality with unreal and unreal with real is
something i have been doing for quite some time."

The film features Bengali matinee idol Prosenjit
Chatterjee and Bollywood`s sizzling actress Sameera Reddy.
